The archive has added the complete six-issue run of African Music Society Newsletter, Volume 1, published between June 1948 and September 1953.
The newsletters precede African Music and document an early institutional environment for recording, transcription, preservation, correspondence, scholarly exchange and the administrative organisation of African music research.
The run complements the archive’s later holdings of African Music rather than extending them mechanically. Together, the materials support a longer history of how sound became recordable, notatable, teachable and institutionally durable.
